It sounds like something that the guys in Goodfellas get up to on the weekends, but BallBreaker is actually an innovative game of skill for the Pocket PC.
You mission is to smash the coloured balls that appear on the screen, but not in a conventional way. Oh no, the only way to bust them in this game is to use the gravitational pull of your cursor to steer them towards a grey block and blow them to smitherines.
To start with things are pretty confusing (there are no in-game instructions) and I was hit with about 100 'game over' screens before I'd even scored my first points.
However, once you figure out that the two main rules are not to touch the balls or the block with your cursor, things become very interesting.
The simulation of gravity in BallBreaker is very realistic and strangely captivating. The balls naturally move towards your position on screen, so you must move all the time, almost 'flicking' them onto the block.
A lot of skill is required to do this but once you've mastered it, it's hard to drag yourself away from the game as the thrill of smashing the balls is so great.
The graphics and overall presentation of this one are very poor but BallBreaker more than makes up for this in terms of its highly original gameplay.
It's refreshing to see a mobile software developer dare to invent a completely new type of game, rather than just rehash classics like Tetris or Asteroids.
